Blog - Vários CEO juntam-se na Nova SBE para discutir Corporate Governance e a Liderança de Boards

It is already on next May 24th, 25th and 26th, 2017 that some of the most important Management names in Portugal will travel to the Faculty of Economics in Portugal to make the Corporate Governance: Board Leadership Program happen, some sharing their experiences as managers and members of corporate bodies, others in the audience investing in Boards that are increasingly prepared for the daily challenges.

Duarte Pitta Ferraz, Scientific Coordinator of the program, comments that “the governance models, the practices adopted and the preparation of the non-executive and executive directors are ways of controlling the origins of crises, reputational risk and protecting the stakeholders, namely the shareholders. In order to respond in a structured way to this goal, a level of demand on effectiveness, involvement, gender diversification, background and age that is transparent and ethical is on the agenda."

The professor, a specialist in Finance and Governance, and also a non-executive director, adds that “this paradigm shift means that the members of the governing bodies have to have a proactive performance of functions, challenging the structures and business models, strategy and tactics of organizations that guarantee their sustainability, as well as the economy and employment. On the other hand, fiduciary responsibility implies a higher level of preparation than in the past.”

To mirror the challenges that Boards face, the program brings together a diverse faculty, which brings together academics like Pedro Santa Clara or António Nogueira Leite, but also executives like Francisco de Lacerda (president and CEO of CTT), João Talone (Magnum Partner) Capital), Maria João Carioca (Director of CGD) and Vítor Bento (President of SIBS); from Frankfurt, also comes Jochen Peppel (Partner of Oliver Wyman). On the 2nd day, the program also has two sessions with Professor Florencio Lopez-de-Silanes, one of the most renowned academics in the Corporate Governance area and who has taught at universities such as Harvard, Yale, and EDHEC Business School - currently a professor from SKEMA Business School.

The program will seek to transmit, over three days, topics of governance, board commissions, and strategy providing a practical multidisciplinary experience with reference persons in the Corporate Governance area, which is why it was possible to attract participants to the program at the highest level of corporate bodies, including 8 CEO, 2 CFO, executive, and non-executive directors and company secretaries.
